Johnny Crown Talks Music & COVID-19
Johnny Crown does it again with his latest EP Fear Don’t Live Here Anymore. The EP comes at of time of unrest & turmoil in the world. This project is a breath of fresh air to give us all hope. We also caught up with Johnny Crown and asked him a few questions regarding his view on the current state of society.
With the release of your last project, how has your life changed?
My last EP Fear Don’t Live Here Anymore has made me more confident in my creative choices on my artistic journey . Because The title was an affirmation that has manifested in the world in the form of the current protests that we are seeing . It’s like the human consciousness has awoken enmasse and when I hear or see #blacklivesmatter and every other motto out there It makes me so proud because I know that what people are saying collectively to systemic oppression is that fear don’t live here anymore so it’s very prophetic. It’s was right on time. A lot of friends and family told me how much the music made them not only think But feel deeper about life and the current situation we are all dealing with.
How do you think the COVID-19 pandemic altered the music industry?
I think the pandemic has its pros and cons. The pros are that artists now have the time to be with family more instead of on the road 24/7 365 and losing all that precious time with their loved ones . Also if you have a home studio these last few months you have had all the time in the world to be more creative and increase your catalogue 100 fold. The cons are that most artist that were reliant on shows and performances took a hit . And independent and up and coming artists that were available to go to places like SXSW for the first time missed out big time on this opportunity .
Do you plan on releasing new music in the near future?
I actually just put out 2 new singles Black Lives Matter and United States of Hell (streaming now on all platforms) . These 2 songs are for the 2nd pandemic we are facing In this country and worldwide which is racism. But I have a whole Drill EP that’s called Lovers Drill that I plan to drop when this black cloud hovering over us in the World passes
What would you tell upcoming artists trying to make it in the music industry?
I will say don’t ever put your eggs in one basket, be multidimensional. I do music , stand up, authored 2 kids books , created my on comic book, and mentor kids . I also write and direct my own short films , the whole nine. Access your soul and express your creativity to the fullest potential and change the world.
